The MENA's non-chicken table egg market expanded remarkably to $X in 2021, surging by 12% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last nine-year period. In value terms, non-chicken table egg production fell to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production saw a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2021 were Kuwait (X tons), Tunisia (X tons) and Turkey (X tons), together comprising 95% of total production. Jordan and Iran lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 3.4%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Jordan (with a CAGR of +2.7%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports in MENA

In 2021, overseas shipments of table eggs, excluding hen eggs were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, recorded a abrupt descent. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-chicken table egg exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a deep reduction. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Saudi Arabia represented the main exporter of table eggs, excluding hen eggs in MENA, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 63% of total exports in 2021. Tunisia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Kuwait (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 32% share of total exports. The following exporters - the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Oman (X tons) - each finished at a 3.4% share of total exports.

Exports from Saudi Arabia increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Tunisia (+25.7%) and Oman (+10.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tunisia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +25.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-15.7%) and Kuwait (-30.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+38 p.p.) and Tunisia (+25 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-2.4 p.p.) and Kuwait (-62.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) emerged as the largest non-chicken table egg supplier in MENA, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Kuwait, with a 5.5% share.

In Saudi Arabia, non-chicken table egg exports increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tunisia (+20.8% per year) and Kuwait (-33.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 17% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Tunisia ($X per ton) and Oman ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+3.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MENA

In 2021, non-chicken table egg imports in MENA skyrocketed to X tons, with an increase of 17% on 2020. Total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -24.4% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 185% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-chicken table egg imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -22.4% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 117%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Saudi Arabia was the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to 46% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Bahrain (X tons), Israel (X tons), Libya (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons), together comprising a 51% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-chicken table egg imports into Saudi Arabia stood at +24.6%. At the same time, Bahrain (+79.6%), Israel (+30.8%), Libya (+26.0%) and Kuwait (+16.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bahrain emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +79.6% from 2012-2021. Saudi Arabia (+46 p.p.), Bahrain (+16 p.p.), Israel (+12 p.p.), Libya (+8.7 p.p.) and Kuwait (+6.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported table eggs, excluding hen eggs in MENA, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bahrain ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Israel, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Saudi Arabia stood at +24.4%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bahrain (+34.8% per year) and Israel (+26.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 30% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
