In value terms, vegetable tanning extracts exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Turkey dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 84% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), making up a 6.1% share of total exports. Djibouti (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +11.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Djibouti (+13.3%) and the United Arab Emirates (+10.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Djibouti emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +13.3% from 2012-2022. Turkey (+13 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest vegetable tanning extracts supplier in MENA, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 4.6% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey stood at +12.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (+7.1% per year) and Djibouti (0.0% per year).

In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, surging by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 18%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Djibouti ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+0.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, imports of tanning extracts of vegetable origin, tannins and their salts other derivatives in MENA dropped to X tons, falling by -8.4% compared with the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, vegetable tanning extracts imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 50%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Turkey dominates imports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 67% of total imports in 2022. Morocco (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Egypt (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 14% share of total imports. The following importers - Iran (X tons), Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), Djibouti (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Lebanon (X tons) and Algeria (X tons) - together made up 14% of total imports.

Imports into Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Lebanon (+24.7%), Qatar (+17.7%) and Djibouti (+11.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lebanon emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +24.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Morocco (-4.3%), Egypt (-5.1%), Iran (-5.9%), Algeria (-6.6%) and Syrian Arab Republic (-7.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+22 p.p.), Qatar (+1.7 p.p.) and Lebanon (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Algeria, Syrian Arab Republic, Iran, Morocco and Egypt saw its share reduced by -2.1%, -3.9%, -4.2%, -5.6% and -5.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported tanning extracts of vegetable origin, tannins and their salts other derivatives in MENA, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Morocco ($X), with a 7.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 6.7% share.

In Turkey, vegetable tanning extracts imports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Morocco (-5.0% per year) and Egypt (-4.7% per year).

In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a mild curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 8.1%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per ton), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+1.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
