Toothpaste Market Size in MENA

The MENA's toothpaste market dropped slightly to $X in 2021, with a decrease of -1.5% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 27%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the major exporter of toothpaste, denture cleaners and other dentifrices, mixing up 40% of total exports. Egypt (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Turkey (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 56% share of total exports. Oman (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Oman (with a CAGR of +54.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 2.4% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+7.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, after four years of growth, there was decline in supplies from abroad of toothpaste, denture cleaners and other dentifrices, when their volume decreased by less than 0.1% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then fell modestly in the following year.

In value terms, toothpaste imports fell slightly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Israel (X tons), Iraq (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) represented the largest importers of toothpaste, denture cleaners and other dentifrices, together generating 81% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Kuwait (with a CAGR of +16.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Turkey ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 50% of total imports. Israel, Kuwait, Iraq and Morocco lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.

Kuwait, with a CAGR of +16.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 5.7% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iraq (+3.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
