In 2021, overseas shipments of transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes decreased by -19.8% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after five years of growth. In general, exports showed a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 24%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, transporter and bridge cranes exports reached $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 39%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Turkey was the key exporter of transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes in MENA, with the volume of exports recording X units, which was near 67% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kuwait (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units) and Saudi Arabia (X units), together mixing up a 22% share of total exports. The following exporters - Oman (X units) and Bahrain (X units) - each finished at an 8% share of total exports.
Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Oman (+37.0%) and Kuwait (+17.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +37.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Bahrain (-1.9%), the United Arab Emirates (-19.3%) and Saudi Arabia (-20.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+34 p.p.), Kuwait (+9.4 p.p.) and Oman (+4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia saw its share reduced by -18.2% and -21.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest transporter and bridge cranes supplier in MENA, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kuwait ($X), with an 8.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Bahrain, with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kuwait (+15.7% per year) and Bahrain (+2.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight curtailment. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per unit), while Saudi Arabia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bahrain (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Imports of Transporter Cranes, Gantry Cranes And Bridge Cranes
Imports in MENA
In 2021, the amount of transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes imported in MENA dropped slightly to X units, falling by -3.1% compared with 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 53% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, transporter and bridge cranes imports reduced to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 64%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Turkey (X units) and Qatar (X units) were the major importers of transporter cranes, gantry cranes and bridge cranes in 2021, resulting at approx. 39% and 29% of total imports, respectively. Oman (X units) held the next position in the ranking, followed by the United Arab Emirates (X units) and Iran (X units). All these countries together took near 21% share of total imports. The following importers - Morocco (X units) and Iraq (X units) - together made up 5.1% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Qatar (with a CAGR of +22.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Turkey ($X), Qatar ($X) and Oman ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 71% of total imports.
Qatar, with a CAGR of +37.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -6.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while Qatar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
