The MENA's passenger car tyre market declined to $X in 2021, falling by -2.8% against the previous year. Overall, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Turkey prevails in exports structure, finishing at X units, which was near 90% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X units), comprising a 6.1% share of total exports.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the tyres for motor cars exports, with a CAGR of +13.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Turkey (+29 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-5.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest passenger car tyre supplier in MENA, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.

In Turkey, passenger car tyre exports increased at an average annual rate of +10.5% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2021, stabilizing at the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 7.6% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while Turkey totaled $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+3.6%).

Imports in MENA

Passenger car tyre imports skyrocketed to X units in 2021, growing by 16% against 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a slight setback. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, passenger car tyre imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a slight downturn. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Turkey (X units) and the United Arab Emirates (X units) represented roughly 46% of total imports in 2021. Morocco (X units) took a 9.8% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Iraq (9.2%) and Israel (6.7%). Egypt (X units), Kuwait (X units), Algeria (X units), Oman (X units), Libya (X units), Qatar (X units) and Yemen (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Morocco (with a CAGR of +15.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Iraq ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 43% of total imports. Morocco, Israel, Kuwait, Algeria, Oman, Egypt, Qatar, Libya and Yemen lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

Among the main importing countries, Morocco, with a CAGR of +13.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, growing by 7.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 10% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Yemen ($X per unit), while Egypt ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
