Egypt (X tons) and Jordan (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together creating 79% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), comprising a 6.8% share of total exports. The following exporters - Turkey (X tons), Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), Lebanon (X tons) and Iran (X tons) - together made up 9.6% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Jordan (with a CAGR of +33.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Egypt ($X), Jordan ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 89% share of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Jordan, with a CAGR of +46.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 5.2% against the previous year. Export price indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, vegetable puree export price increased by +109.6% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 40%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, the amount of vegetable puree imported in MENA dropped to X tons, reducing by -4.8% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports recorded a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, vegetable puree imports reached $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 96% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Yemen represented the main importer of vegetable puree in MENA, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 32% of total imports in 2022. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 15% share, followed by Kuwait (12%), Libya (12%) and Iraq (8.6%). Oman (X tons), Lebanon (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Djibouti (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to vegetable puree imports into Yemen stood at +29.0%. At the same time, Djibouti (+31.2%), Iraq (+20.4%), Kuwait (+13.5%), Turkey (+9.2%), Syrian Arab Republic (+6.2%), Lebanon (+3.6%) and the United Arab Emirates (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Djibouti emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +31.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Egypt (-7.6%), Oman (-8.9%) and Libya (-13.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Yemen (+30 p.p.), Kuwait (+9.4 p.p.), Iraq (+7.5 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+4.7 p.p.), Turkey (+2.1 p.p.), Djibouti (+1.6 p.p.) and Lebanon (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Oman and Libya saw its share reduced by -4.5% and -28% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest vegetable puree importing markets in MENA were Kuwait ($X), Yemen ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), together accounting for 53% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Yemen, with a CAGR of +28.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 8.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 28%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
