In value terms, wheat and meslin flour exports soared to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +41.3% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Turkey prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 82% of total exports in 2022. Oman (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Egypt (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 12% share of total exports. The following exporters - Kuwait (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) - each amounted to a 3.9% share of total exports.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Oman (+13.8%), Egypt (+8.1%), Kuwait (+6.6%) and the United Arab Emirates (+3.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +13.8% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Oman increased by +4 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest wheat and meslin flour supplier in MENA, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 6.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Oman, with a 5.3% share.

In Turkey, wheat and meslin flour exports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (+11.4% per year) and Oman (+10.7% per year).

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 24%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

At the same time, Yemen (+32.6%), Syrian Arab Republic (+22.5%), Djibouti (+9.3%), Palestine (+7.3%), the United Arab Emirates (+5.6%) and Saudi Arabia (+4.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Yemen emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +32.6% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Yemen and Syrian Arab Republic increased by +17 and +8.4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
