The MENA's whole fresh milk market amounted to $X in 2022, flattening at the previous year. In general, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

Whole Fresh Milk Production in MENA

In value terms, whole fresh milk production shrank modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 15%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

The country with the largest volume of whole fresh milk production was Turkey (X tons), comprising approx. 44% of total volume. Moreover, whole fresh milk production in Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Iran (X tons), threefold. Egypt (X tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a 10% share.

In Turkey, whole fresh milk production increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Iran (+0.2% per year) and Egypt (-0.6% per year).

Whole Fresh Milk Exports

Exports in MENA

Whole fresh milk exports expanded rapidly to X tons in 2022, growing by 15% against 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, whole fresh milk exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a abrupt curtailment. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Iran (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) were the major exporters of whole fresh milk, together achieving 90% of total exports. Bahrain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Kuwait (with a CAGR of +29.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest whole fresh milk supplying countries in MENA were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Turkey ($X), with a combined 68% share of total exports. Kuwait, Iran, Tunisia and Bahrain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.

Kuwait, with a CAGR of +33.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 4.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 14% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kuwait (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Whole Fresh Milk Imports

Imports in MENA

In 2022, the amount of whole fresh milk imported in MENA stood at X tons, stabilizing at the previous year. Overall, imports, however, showed a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, whole fresh milk imports reduced slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 53%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Libya represented the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which resulted at 51% of total imports. Oman (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Yemen (9.7%), Iraq (9.1%), the United Arab Emirates (5.7%) and Jordan (5.2%). Qatar (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to whole fresh milk imports into Libya stood at +9.5%. At the same time, Yemen (+32.3%), Jordan (+21.7%) and Iraq (+16.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Yemen emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +32.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Oman (-2.7%), Qatar (-6.0%) and the United Arab Emirates (-18.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Libya (+33 p.p.), Yemen (+9.1 p.p.), Iraq (+7.4 p.p.) and Jordan (+4.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Oman and the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -1.8% and -31.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Libya ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported whole fresh milk in MENA, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Oman ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Iraq, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Libya stood at +8.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Oman (-5.5% per year) and Iraq (+15.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -3.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 45% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while Libya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
