Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wind powered generator exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a notable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 987%. Turkey prevails in exports structure, finishing at X units, which was approx. 83% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X units), committing a 5.5% share of total exports. The following exporters - the United Arab Emirates (X units), Lebanon (X units) and Israel (X units) - together made up 9% of total exports.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the wind powered generating sets exports, with a CAGR of +86.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+60.6%), Israel (+30.5%) and the United Arab Emirates (+4.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Lebanon (-23.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+83 p.p.) and Saudi Arabia (+5.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-2.2 p.p.) and Lebanon (-81 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest wind powered generator supplier in MENA, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Lebanon, with a 5.9% share.

In Turkey, wind powered generator exports expanded at an average annual rate of +37.0% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+9.2% per year) and Lebanon (-21.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2021, with a decrease of -68.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 134%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per unit), while Saudi Arabia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of wind powered generating sets increased by 142% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wind powered generator imports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 156% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Morocco was the major importing country with an import of around X units, which finished at 75% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Israel (X units) and Turkey (X units), together mixing up a 19% share of total imports. Qatar (X units) took a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Morocco decreased at an average annual rate of -8.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Israel (+111.8%) and Turkey (+14.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Israel emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +111.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Qatar (-21.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Israel (+11 p.p.) and Turkey (+6.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Morocco (-5.3 p.p.) and Qatar (-12.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported wind powered generating sets in MENA, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Morocco ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Israel, with a 9.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey stood at +6.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Morocco (+18.9% per year) and Israel (+110.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -63.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 716%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then dropped notably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while Qatar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
