Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +15.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+38.1%), Saudi Arabia (+20.1%) and Egypt (+17.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +38.1% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Saudi Arabia increased by +7.7, +1.7 and +1.7 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest worked flat glass supplier in MENA, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 6.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 2.2% share.
In Turkey, worked flat glass exports increased at an average annual rate of +11.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (+20.2% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+11.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 2.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 18%. In 2021, approx. X tons of worked flat glass were imported in MENA; increasing by 16% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, worked flat glass imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +75.0% against 2019 indices. Imports by Country
Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Iraq (X tons) represented the main importers of worked flat glass in 2021, resulting at near 28% and 26% of total imports, respectively. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) took a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Turkey (9.7%), Israel (6.7%) and Algeria (6.5%). Libya (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Iraq (with a CAGR of +49.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported worked flat glass in MENA, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Iraq, with an 11% share.
In Turkey, worked flat glass imports expanded at an average annual rate of +11.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (+41.8% per year) and Iraq (+42.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
