Yoghurt Market Size in MENA

After two years of decline, the MENA's yoghurt market increased by 2.2% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption enjoyed a buoyant expansion. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

Yoghurt Production in MENA

In value terms, yoghurt production reached $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 74% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2022, approx. X tons of yoghurt were exported in MENA; falling by -72.8% compared with the year before. In general, exports saw a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, yoghurt exports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 63%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Israel (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together generating 74% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), creating a 9.6% share of total exports. The following exporters - Morocco (X tons), Palestine (X tons), Algeria (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) - together made up 11% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +4.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, the largest yoghurt supplying countries in MENA were Israel ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Turkey ($X), together accounting for 84% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +3.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, rising by 6.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Palestine ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Palestine (+0.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Yoghurt Imports

Imports in MENA

In 2022, approx. X tons of yoghurt were imported in MENA; declining by -2.8% against 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 89% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, yoghurt imports rose slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw slight growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the three major importers of yoghurt, namely Kuwait, Oman and the United Arab Emirates, represented more than half of total import. Palestine (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 13% share, followed by Bahrain (10%) and Libya (4.8%). Jordan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Kuwait (with a CAGR of +40.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest yoghurt importing markets in MENA were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Kuwait ($X) and Oman ($X), with a combined 65% share of total imports.

Kuwait, with a CAGR of +33.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 6.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by 9.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Libya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
