In value terms, ABS copolymers exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced setback. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Brazil (X tons) was the major exporter of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (abs) copolymers in primary forms, creating 57% of total exports. Venezuela (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Colombia (X tons). All these countries together held near 33% share of total exports. The following exporters - Ecuador (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) - each finished at an 8.4% share of total exports.

Exports from Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -2.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Venezuela (+22.5%), Ecuador (+7.0%) and Colombia (+6.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Venezuela emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +22.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Argentina (-8.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Venezuela (+21 p.p.), Colombia (+4.7 p.p.) and Ecuador (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Argentina (-5.2 p.p.) and Brazil (-19.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest ABS copolymers supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Venezuela ($X), with a 5.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 4.8% share.

In Brazil, ABS copolymers exports decreased by an average annual rate of -4.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Venezuela (+14.8% per year) and Colombia (-6.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 67% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a perceptible shrinkage. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Venezuela ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (abs) copolymers in primary forms increased by 33% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
