For the third consecutive year, the MERCOSUR agglomerated dolomite market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 11% to $X in 2022. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, agglomerated dolomite production stood at $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 3.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

In 2022, overseas shipments of agglomerated dolomite decreased by -76.5% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 89% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

In value terms, agglomerated dolomite exports shrank sharply to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a perceptible slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 164%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank notably in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Brazil (X tons) represented the key exporter of agglomerated dolomite in MERCOSUR, achieving 100% of total export.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the agglomerated dolomite exports, with a CAGR of -1.5% from 2012 to 2022. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) also remains the largest agglomerated dolomite supplier in MERCOSUR.

In Brazil, agglomerated dolomite exports plunged by an average annual rate of -2.3% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -4.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 40% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Brazil.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Brazil amounted to -0.9% per year.

Imports in MERCOSUR

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of agglomerated dolomite decreased by -72.2% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 116%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, agglomerated dolomite imports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed mild growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 90% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Paraguay (X tons) represented the main importer of agglomerated dolomite, achieving 80% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Argentina (X tons), comprising a 12% share of total imports. The following importers - Venezuela (X tons) and Peru (X tons) - together made up 5.7% of total imports.

Imports into Paraguay decreased at an average annual rate of -2.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Argentina (+51.1%), Peru (+17.7%) and Venezuela (+8.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Argentina emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +51.1% from 2012-2022. While the share of Argentina (+12 p.p.), Venezuela (+2.3 p.p.) and Peru (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Paraguay (-6.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the largest agglomerated dolomite importing markets in MERCOSUR were Paraguay ($X), Argentina ($X) and Venezuela ($X), with a combined 74% share of total imports.

Argentina, with a CAGR of +33.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 86% against the previous year. Import price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, agglomerated dolomite import price increased by +97.4% against 2020 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while Paraguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
