Exports in MERCOSUR

Anti-freezing preparations exports surged to X tons in 2021, rising by 20% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt decrease. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, anti-freezing preparations exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a drastic downturn. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Brazil (X tons) represented the major exporter of anti-freezing preparations and prepared de-icing fluids, constituting 51% of total exports. Peru (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Chile (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Venezuela (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 46% share of total exports. Argentina (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -22.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Peru (+34.0%) and Venezuela (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +34.0% from 2012-2021. Chile experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Argentina (-5.3%) and Colombia (-11.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Peru (+20 p.p.), Chile (+13 p.p.), Venezuela (+4.4 p.p.), Colombia (+2.2 p.p.) and Argentina (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Brazil (-41.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest anti-freezing preparations supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Chile ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Peru, with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil totaled -17.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Chile (-3.5% per year) and Peru (+29.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 13% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 27%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while Peru ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+5.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, the amount of anti-freezing preparations and prepared de-icing fluids imported in MERCOSUR skyrocketed to X tons, picking up by 37% compared with the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Peru (X tons) and Chile (X tons) were the major importers of anti-freezing preparations and prepared de-icing fluids in MERCOSUR, together making up 51% of total imports. Argentina (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Brazil (X tons), Ecuador (X tons) and Colombia (X tons). All these countries together held near 40% share of total imports. Suriname (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Suriname (with a CAGR of +33.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Chile ($X), Peru ($X) and Brazil ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 64% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Argentina, Ecuador, Colombia and Suriname, which together accounted for a further 30%.

Suriname, with a CAGR of +27.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 10%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Suriname ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (-0.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
