Exports in MERCOSUR

For the fifth consecutive year, MERCOSUR recorded growth in shipments abroad of aramids staple, which increased by 36% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 724% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, aramids staple exports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 3,982%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Brazil prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 91% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X tons), mixing up a 5.4% share of total exports. Argentina (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the aramids staple exports, with a CAGR of +87.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Argentina (+85.7%) and Colombia (+50.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Brazil (+91 p.p.) and Argentina (+3.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Colombia saw its share reduced by -94.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest aramids staple supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Argentina ($X), with a 7.1% share of total exports.

In Brazil, aramids staple exports increased at an average annual rate of +70.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Argentina (+113.5% per year) and Colombia (+60.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -16.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 426%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+15.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Aramids Staple Imports

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, approx. X tons of aramids staple were imported in MERCOSUR; surging by 12% against 2020. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aramids staple imports reached $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 36%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Brazil represented the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 76% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Peru (X tons), comprising a 12% share of total imports. Chile (X tons), Argentina (X tons), Ecuador (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to aramids staple imports into Brazil stood at -6.8%. At the same time, Chile (+31.7%), Peru (+7.0%) and Colombia (+6.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +31.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Argentina (-5.2%) and Ecuador (-13.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Peru and Chile increased by +8 and +4.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported aramids staple in MERCOSUR, comprising 79% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Peru ($X), with an 8.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 5.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil totaled -7.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Peru (+22.2% per year) and Argentina (-6.0% per year).

In 2021, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, waning by -8.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
