In value terms, articles of fiber cement exports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a perceptible slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Colombia represented the main exporter of articles of asbestos-cement, cellulose fiber-cement or the like in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 57% of total exports in 2022. Brazil (X tons) held a 29% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Chile (4.8%) and Ecuador (4.8%). The following exporters - Argentina (X tons) and Peru (X tons) - together made up 4.5% of total exports.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 25% against the previous year. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Peru, with an 11% share.

In Ecuador, articles of fiber cement imports increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Chile (-5.5% per year) and Peru (+10.3% per year).
