Exports in MERCOSUR
After three years of decline, shipments abroad of ball bearings increased by 1.8% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 18%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, ball bearing exports contracted to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Brazil (X tons) represented the main exporter of ball bearings, creating 60% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Argentina (X tons), creating a 35% share of total exports. Paraguay (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Paraguay (with a CAGR of +79.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest ball bearing supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Argentina ($X), with a 28% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil totaled -7.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Argentina (-6.1% per year) and Paraguay (+46.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, declining by -11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 9% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Paraguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (-0.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR
In 2021, overseas purchases of ball bearings were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, ball bearing imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Brazil prevails in imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 70% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Argentina (X tons) and Colombia (X tons), together constituting a 15% share of total imports. Chile (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the ball bearings imports, with a CAGR of +5.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Ecuador (+4.8%) and Colombia (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Peru, Chile and Argentina experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil increased by +12 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported ball bearings in MERCOSUR, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 9.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 9.4% share.
In Brazil, ball bearing imports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (-0.5% per year) and Argentina (-2.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 2.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable curtailment. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
