In 2022, approx. X tons of base metal hooks, eyes and eyelets were exported in MERCOSUR; reducing by -20.6% against 2021 figures. In general, exports recorded a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, base metal hook exports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 63%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Brazil (X tons) represented the key exporter of base metal hooks, eyes and eyelets, making up 72% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X tons), generating a 20% share of total exports. Chile (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to base metal hook exports from Brazil stood at -4.1%. At the same time, Chile (+12.4%) and Colombia (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +12.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Argentina (-8.6%) and Peru (-23.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+10 p.p.), Colombia (+9.7 p.p.) and Chile (+2.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Peru (-20.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest base metal hook supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Colombia ($X), with a 26% share of total exports. It was followed by Chile, with a 2.7% share.

In Brazil, base metal hook exports decreased by an average annual rate of -3.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Colombia (+2.3% per year) and Chile (+15.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 23% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while Peru ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+3.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. X tons of base metal hooks, eyes and eyelets were imported in MERCOSUR; flattening at the previous year. Total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +54.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 62% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, base metal hook imports reduced modestly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 47%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Chile (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) represented roughly 79% of total imports in 2022. Argentina (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Ecuador (X tons). All these countries together took near 13% share of total imports. Paraguay (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Colombia (with a CAGR of +9.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Colombia ($X), Brazil ($X) and Peru ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 56% of total imports. Chile, Argentina, Ecuador and Paraguay lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 39%.

Paraguay, with a CAGR of +4.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -3.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 18%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
