Basic Dye Market Size in MERCOSUR
After two years of decline, the MERCOSUR basic dye market increased by 7% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption, however, showed a mild setback. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, basic dye production surged to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a perceptible setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the production volume increased by 33%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of basic dyes and preparations based thereon decreased by -7.3% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 61%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, basic dye exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +61.1% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Brazil (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) dominates exports structure, together constituting 95% of total exports. The following exporters - Peru (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) - each amounted to a 3.6% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Peru (with a CAGR of +42.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest basic dye supplying countries in MERCOSUR were Colombia ($X), Brazil ($X) and Peru ($X), with a combined 93% share of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Peru, with a CAGR of +53.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 26% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a pronounced slump. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+7.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR
After four years of growth, overseas purchases of basic dyes and preparations based thereon decreased by -4.3% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +54.4% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank modestly in the following year.
In value terms, basic dye imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Brazil (X tons) was the key importer of basic dyes and preparations based thereon, generating 50% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X tons), Argentina (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons), together comprising a 45% share of total imports. Chile (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to basic dye imports into Brazil stood at +3.5%. At the same time, Colombia (+8.7%), Argentina (+3.3%), Peru (+2.8%) and Chile (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +8.7% from 2012-2021. Ecuador experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Colombia (+7.6 p.p.) and Brazil (+5.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported basic dyes and preparations based thereon in MERCOSUR, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Colombia ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Peru, with a 16% share.
In Brazil, basic dye imports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Colombia (+10.4% per year) and Peru (+6.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 13% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 17%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
