Overall, exports saw a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 36%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, bedspread exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Paraguay (X units) and Chile (X units) represented roughly 79% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X units), achieving a 17% share of total exports. Peru (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Paraguay (with a CAGR of +42.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the largest bedspread supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Paraguay ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Chile was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Paraguay (+40.4% per year) and Brazil (-18.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 23% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a perceptible downturn. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while Paraguay ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Paraguay (-1.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, overseas purchases of bedspreads (excluding eiderdowns) were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, recorded a deep slump. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Chile represented the major importer of bedspreads (excluding eiderdowns) in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was approx. 63% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X units), Colombia (X units), Guyana (X units) and Peru (X units), together generating a 28% share of total imports. Uruguay (X units) and Argentina (X units) held a little share of total imports.

Chile was also the fastest-growing in terms of the bedspreads (excluding eiderdowns) imports, with a CAGR of +24.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Guyana (+17.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Colombia (-2.0%), Peru (-2.1%), Uruguay (-11.4%), Brazil (-20.4%) and Argentina (-24.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Chile (+59 p.p.), Guyana (+5 p.p.), Colombia (+2.8 p.p.) and Peru (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Uruguay (-2.3 p.p.), Argentina (-9.2 p.p.) and Brazil (-32 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Chile ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported bedspreads (excluding eiderdowns) in MERCOSUR, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with an 11% share.

In Chile, bedspread imports expanded at an average annual rate of +18.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (-17.0% per year) and Colombia (-4.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 13% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a slight downturn. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Argentina ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
