In 2022, shipments abroad of black printing ink increased by 15% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, exports, however, saw a abrupt contraction. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, black printing ink exports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a perceptible shrinkage. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Brazil (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) represented the major exporters of black printing ink in MERCOSUR, together recording approx. 71% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Peru (X tons), Argentina (X tons) and Chile (X tons), together making up a 27% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +18.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest black printing ink supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Colombia ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Chile, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil amounted to -6.7%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Colombia (+0.2% per year) and Chile (+9.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. Export price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, black printing ink export price increased by +64.3% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 28%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+8.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2022, purchases abroad of black printing ink increased by 5.1% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 8.9% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, black printing ink imports totaled $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Brazil represented the major importer of black printing ink in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 53% of total imports in 2022. Argentina (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Chile (9.7%), Colombia (9.3%), Peru (9.1%) and Ecuador (5.3%). Paraguay (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the black printing ink imports, with a CAGR of +2.5% from 2012 to 2022. Colombia (-3.3%), Ecuador (-3.8%), Paraguay (-5.0%), Chile (-5.1%), Peru (-5.7%) and Argentina (-6.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Brazil (+20 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Chile, Peru and Argentina saw its share reduced by -3.1%, -3.8% and -5.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil totaled +2.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (-1.5% per year) and Argentina (+1.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 3.2% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 18%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Chile ($X per ton) and Colombia ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) and Paraguay ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+10.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
