In 2022, overseas shipments of blades for construction equipment increased by 3.2% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 2,023%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, construction equipment blade exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a slight increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 5,607% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Brazil prevails in exports structure, reaching X units, which was approx. 84% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Chile (X units), creating a 5.4% share of total exports. The following exporters - Peru (X units), Colombia (X units) and Uruguay (X units) - together made up 10% of total exports.

Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of blades for construction equipment. At the same time, Colombia (+13.6%), Chile (+7.3%), Uruguay (+5.2%) and Peru (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +13.6% from 2012-2022. While the share of Brazil (+6.3 p.p.), Colombia (+2.8 p.p.), Chile (+2.7 p.p.) and Uruguay (+2.4 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest construction equipment blade supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Chile ($X), with a 4.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Peru, with a 4.3% share.

In Brazil, construction equipment blade exports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Chile (+8.7% per year) and Peru (+2.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, rising by 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted a slight increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 169% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per unit), while Uruguay ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uruguay (+7.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2022, purchases abroad of blades for construction equipment increased by 18% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after four years of decline. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed moderate growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 514%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, construction equipment blade imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a tangible increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 743%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Brazil dominates imports structure, recording X units, which was near 77% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Ecuador (X units) and Colombia (X units), together achieving a 12% share of total imports. Chile (X units), Argentina (X units) and Peru (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +13.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Ecuador (+24.3%) and Argentina (+22.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ecuador emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +24.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Chile (-6.1%), Peru (-13.0%) and Colombia (-14.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+48 p.p.), Ecuador (+5.7 p.p.) and Argentina (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Chile (-5.4 p.p.), Peru (-9.7 p.p.) and Colombia (-30.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported blades for construction equipment in MERCOSUR, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Chile ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Peru, with a 3.9% share.

In Brazil, construction equipment blade imports increased at an average annual rate of +14.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (+4.8% per year) and Peru (-8.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by 14% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 37%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while Colombia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
