Bottled Water Market Size in MERCOSUR

The MERCOSUR bottled water market shrank to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -3.1% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Bottled Water Production in MERCOSUR

In value terms, bottled water production contracted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in MERCOSUR

In 2022, exports of bottled waters in MERCOSUR rose to X tons, picking up by 1.7% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 66% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, bottled water exports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +3.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Brazil was the major exporter of bottled waters in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 64% of total exports in 2022. Peru (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Ecuador (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 29% share of total exports. Argentina (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Paraguay (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the bottled waters exports, with a CAGR of +40.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Colombia (+10.2%) and Ecuador (+6.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Paraguay experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Argentina (-2.7%) and Peru (-3.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+59 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Paraguay (-1.6 p.p.), Argentina (-6.8 p.p.) and Peru (-48.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest bottled water supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Peru ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 6.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil stood at +27.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Peru (-3.2% per year) and Colombia (+13.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 8.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a mild descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while Peru ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Bottled Water Imports

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2022, the amount of bottled waters imported in MERCOSUR skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 19% on 2021 figures. In general, imports saw strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 57% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, bottled water imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 48%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Guyana (X tons), Brazil (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Chile (X tons) represented roughly 85% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Peru (X tons), committing a 4.9% share of total imports. The following importers - Ecuador (X tons) and Suriname (X tons) - each reached a 4.8% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Suriname (with a CAGR of +28.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Guyana ($X) and Chile ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 72% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Suriname, which together accounted for a further 24%.

Suriname, with a CAGR of +30.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, growing by 9.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 20% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($X per ton), while Guyana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
