The MERCOSUR brassiere, girdle and corset market surged to $X in 2021, jumping by 20% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed a pronounced shrinkage. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, exports of brassieres, girdles and corsets in MERCOSUR soared to X tons, with an increase of 21% compared with 2020. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, brassiere, girdle and corset exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Colombia dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 84% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), constituting an 8.2% share of total exports. The following exporters - Chile (X tons) and Peru (X tons) - together made up 5.9% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to brassiere, girdle and corset exports from Colombia stood at +2.4%. At the same time, Chile (+9.1%) and Brazil (+8.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +9.1% from 2012-2021. Peru experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil and Chile increased by +3.1 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Colombia ($X) remains the largest brassiere, girdle and corset supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Chile ($X), with a 6.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 6.2% share.

In Colombia, brassiere, girdle and corset exports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Chile (-8.7% per year) and Brazil (-0.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 3.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 4.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+5.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports of Brassieres, Girdles And Corsets

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, approx. X tons of brassieres, girdles and corsets were imported in MERCOSUR; picking up by 79% compared with the previous year. Total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, brassiere, girdle and corset imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a slight shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Chile represented the main importer of brassieres, girdles and corsets in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 49% of total imports in 2021. Peru (X tons) held a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Brazil (8.8%), Ecuador (7.8%) and Paraguay (7.1%). The following importers - Venezuela (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) - each accounted for an 8.4% share of total imports.

Chile was also the fastest-growing in terms of the brassieres, girdles and corsets imports, with a CAGR of +16.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Paraguay (+5.7%), Ecuador (+4.8%) and Brazil (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Peru experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Colombia (-7.8%) and Venezuela (-17.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Chile and Paraguay increased by +33 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Chile ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported brassieres, girdles and corsets in MERCOSUR, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Peru ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 12% share.

In Chile, brassiere, girdle and corset imports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Peru (-0.3% per year) and Brazil (-0.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -18.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 15% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
