In value terms, buttermilk and buttermilk powder exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 182% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Uruguay represented the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 70% of total exports. Argentina (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 17% share, followed by Brazil (9.3%). Colombia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Uruguay experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of buttermilk and buttermilk powder. At the same time, Colombia (+4.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +4.2% from 2012-2022. Argentina experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2022, buttermilk and buttermilk powder imports in MERCOSUR shrank slightly to X tons, dropping by -1.9% against 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 68% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, buttermilk and buttermilk powder imports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 100% against the previous year. In 2022, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, rising by 11% against the previous year. Import price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, buttermilk and buttermilk powder import price increased by +62.1% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 20% against the previous year.
