In 2021, approx. X tons of calcium carbonate were imported in MERCOSUR; growing by 15% on 2020. In general, imports enjoyed a moderate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 75%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, calcium carbonate imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a pronounced downturn. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Brazil (X tons) and Chile (X tons) represented the largest importers of calcium carbonate in MERCOSUR, together comprising 61% of total imports. Paraguay (X tons) and Venezuela (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Ecuador (with a CAGR of +19.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Chile ($X) and Ecuador ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 70% share of total imports.

Ecuador, with a CAGR of +25.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt decline.
