For the third consecutive year, the MERCOSUR canned mushroom market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 6.4% to $X in 2022. In 2022, Colombia (X tons) was the key exporter of canned mushrooms, making up 58% of total exports. Chile (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Brazil (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 39% share of total exports. Argentina (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of +3.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Colombia ($X), Brazil ($X) and Chile ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 87% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Argentina, which accounted for a further 6.2%.

In 2022, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, surging by 17% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+3.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of canned mushrooms decreased by -3.9% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 20%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, canned mushroom imports stood at $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 37%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Chile (X tons) represented the main importer of canned mushrooms, committing 38% of total imports. Argentina (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Peru (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Uruguay (X tons) and Venezuela (X tons). All these countries together took near 56% share of total imports. Ecuador (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +12.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Chile ($X), Argentina ($X) and Colombia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 68% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Colombia, with a CAGR of +14.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
