Carbon Brush Market Size in MERCOSUR

The MERCOSUR carbon brush market rose markedly to $X in 2021, growing by 9.4% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -5.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, overseas shipments of carbon brushes increased by 33% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, carbon brush exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Brazil dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 92% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X tons), constituting a 5% share of total exports.

Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of carbon brushes. At the same time, Colombia (+2.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +2.6% from 2012-2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest carbon brush supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Colombia ($X), with a 2.9% share of total exports.

In Brazil, carbon brush exports increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, falling by -7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Colombia totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+1.2%).

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of carbon brushes, when their volume increased by 35% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, carbon brush imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Brazil was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which resulted at 41% of total imports. Chile (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Peru (X tons), Argentina (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 52% share of total imports. Venezuela (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to carbon brush imports into Brazil stood at +3.7%. At the same time, Peru (+5.7%), Argentina (+4.5%) and Chile (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +5.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Colombia (-1.7%), Ecuador (-2.4%) and Venezuela (-16.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil, Peru and Argentina increased by +8.8, +3.9 and +2.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported carbon brushes in MERCOSUR, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil totaled +3.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (+3.2% per year) and Argentina (+7.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -1.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Venezuela ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
