The MERCOSUR trailer and semi-trailer market reduced slightly to $X in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. In 2022, the amount of cargo trailers and semi-trailers exported in MERCOSUR fell significantly to X units, dropping by -37.6% against the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 6,148%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

In value terms, trailer and semi-trailer exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 95% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Guyana prevails in exports structure, accounting for X units, which was near 95% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X units), comprising a 4.7% share of total exports.

Guyana was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cargo trailers and semi-trailers exports, with a CAGR of +116.2% from 2012 to 2022. Brazil (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Guyana (+94 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Brazil (-75.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest trailer and semi-trailer supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Guyana ($X), with a 0.5% share of total exports.

In Brazil, trailer and semi-trailer exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by 129% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a sharp setback. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Guyana totaled $X per unit.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2022, purchases abroad of cargo trailers and semi-trailers increased by 45% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after five years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a mild curtailment. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, trailer and semi-trailer imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Brazil (X units) was the major importer of cargo trailers and semi-trailers, generating 39% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Chile (X units), Guyana (X units), Paraguay (X units) and Peru (X units), together comprising a 45% share of total imports. The following importers - Uruguay (X units) and Colombia (X units) - each reached an 8.4% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Guyana (with a CAGR of +11.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, Chile ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cargo trailers and semi-trailers in MERCOSUR, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uruguay ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Paraguay, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Chile was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uruguay (+2.7% per year) and Paraguay (+2.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, falling by -13.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 44% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uruguay ($X per unit), while Brazil ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
