In value terms, casein and caseinates exports dropped rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 54%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Argentina (X tons) represented roughly 100% of total exports in 2022.

Argentina was also the fastest-growing in terms of the casein and caseinates exports, with a CAGR of -2.3% from 2012 to 2022. Argentina (+2.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Argentina ($X) also remains the largest casein and caseinates supplier in MERCOSUR.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Argentina amounted to -2.9%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -5.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Argentina.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Argentina amounted to -0.6% per year.

Casein And Caseinates Imports

Imports in MERCOSUR

Casein and caseinates imports expanded remarkably to X tons in 2022, surging by 9.1% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, casein and caseinates imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports posted a pronounced increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Brazil represented the largest importer of casein and caseinates in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 79% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X tons), generating an 11% share of total imports. Uruguay (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to casein and caseinates imports into Brazil stood at +6.0%. At the same time, Argentina (+76.8%) and Colombia (+38.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Argentina emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +76.8% from 2012-2022. Uruguay and Peru experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Brazil (+39 p.p.), Colombia (+11 p.p.) and Argentina (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported casein and caseinates in MERCOSUR, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Colombia ($X), with an 8.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Uruguay, with a 3% share.

In Brazil, casein and caseinates imports increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Colombia (+38.2% per year) and Uruguay (+0.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 29% against the previous year. Import price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, casein and caseinates import price increased by +87.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 29% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Brazil ($X per ton) and Argentina ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) and Peru ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+3.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
