Peru (X tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a 7.9% share.

In Brazil, chicken meat production increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Argentina (+2.1% per year) and Peru (+4.2% per year).

In 2021, the average yield of chicken meat in MERCOSUR rose modestly to X kg per head, surging by 1.8% against the year before. Over the period under review, the yield saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the yield increased by 2% against the previous year. The level of yield peaked at X kg per head in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

In 2021, the number of animals slaughtered for chicken meat production in MERCOSUR expanded slightly to X heads, rising by 2.9% against 2020. This number increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 4.4%. The level of producing animals peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Chicken meat exports rose significantly to X tons in 2021, surging by 7% against the previous year. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, chicken meat exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Brazil prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 93% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - Argentina (X tons) and Chile (X tons) - each finished at a 6.4% share of total exports.

Exports from Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Chile (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +5.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Argentina (-7.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+4.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Argentina (-4.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest chicken meat supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Chile ($X), with a 5.8% share of total exports.

In Brazil, chicken meat exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Chile (+9.3% per year) and Argentina (-8.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a slight contraction. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, the amount of chicken meat imported in MERCOSUR reached X tons, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, chicken meat imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced slump. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Chile was the main importer of chicken meat in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 44% of total imports in 2021. Colombia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Peru (X tons) and Suriname (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 45% share of total imports. Brazil (X tons), Venezuela (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of +16.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Chile ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chicken meat in MERCOSUR, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Colombia ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Peru, with a 15% share.

In Chile, chicken meat imports increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Colombia (+16.8% per year) and Peru (+12.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 33% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Suriname ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
