In value terms, chloride oxides of metal exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +73.5% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Colombia was the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 46% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Peru (X tons), Paraguay (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and Chile (X tons), together achieving a 52% share of total exports.

Exports from Colombia increased at an average annual rate of +14.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Paraguay (+36.4%), Brazil (+22.7%), Chile (+13.5%) and Peru (+3.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Paraguay emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +36.4% from 2012-2021. While the share of Paraguay (+19 p.p.), Colombia (+15 p.p.) and Brazil (+6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Peru (-14 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Peru ($X) remains the largest chloride oxides of metal supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 16% share.

In Peru, chloride oxides of metal exports increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Chile (+14.3% per year) and Colombia (+17.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while Paraguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, supplies from abroad of chloride oxides and chloride hydroxides of copper and other metals decreased by -4.6% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

In value terms, chloride oxides of metal imports expanded notably to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +78.5% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Brazil (X tons), Chile (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) represented roughly 88% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Peru (X tons), constituting a 7.3% share of total imports. Paraguay (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +40.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chloride oxides and chloride hydroxides of copper and other metals in MERCOSUR, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Colombia ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with an 18% share.
