The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 80%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, citrus fruits not elsewhere classified exports declined significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 99%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In 2022, purchases abroad of citrus fruits not elsewhere classified decreased by -36% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 153% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, citrus fruits not elsewhere classified imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 142%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Chile dominates imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 90% of total imports in 2022. The following importers - Peru (X kg), Argentina (X kg) and Ecuador (X kg) - each resulted at a 6.1% share of total imports.
Chile was also the fastest-growing in terms of the citrus fruits not elsewhere classified imports, with a CAGR of +9.4% from 2012 to 2022. Argentina (-28.9%), Peru (-31.9%) and Ecuador (-39.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Chile (+83 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Argentina (-9.1 p.p.), Peru (-19.4 p.p.) and Ecuador (-43.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Chile ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported citrus fruits not elsewhere classified in MERCOSUR, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Argentina ($X), with an 8.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Peru, with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Chile totaled +4.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Argentina (-17.9% per year) and Peru (-19.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, falling by -34.1% against the previous year. Import price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade.
