The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 219% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Colombia dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 74% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Peru (X tons), Chile (X tons), Ecuador (X tons) and Brazil (X tons), together constituting a 26% share of total exports.
Colombia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the coffee substitutes containing coffee exports, with a CAGR of +53.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Chile (+25.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Ecuador (-6.3%), Brazil (-10.3%) and Peru (-15.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Colombia (+73 p.p.) and Chile (+6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Ecuador (-12.1 p.p.), Brazil (-16.4 p.p.) and Peru (-49.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Colombia ($X) remains the largest coffee substitutes supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Ecuador, with an 8.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Colombia amounted to +53.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Chile (+55.6% per year) and Ecuador (-7.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 16% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 37%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Peru ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in MERCOSUR
After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of coffee substitutes containing coffee decreased by -42.1% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 148% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, coffee substitutes imports declined rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 286%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Chile (X tons) and Venezuela (X tons) dominates imports structure, together committing 84% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Peru (X tons), achieving an 8.4% share of total imports. Suriname (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Venezuela (with a CAGR of +41.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Chile ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported coffee substitutes containing coffee in MERCOSUR, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Venezuela ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Peru, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Chile amounted to +35.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Venezuela (+29.6% per year) and Peru (-15.7% per year).
