Exports in MERCOSUR
In 2022, approx. X units of combined reel slitting and re-reeling cutting machines for paper and paperboard were exported in MERCOSUR; growing by 49% against the year before. Total exports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 66%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, reel cutting slitter exports soared to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Exports by Country
Brazil was the major exporting country with an export of around X units, which accounted for 66% of total exports. Ecuador (X units) held a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Chile (9.6%) and Argentina (5.7%). Colombia (X units), Peru (X units) and Venezuela (X units) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to reel cutting slitter exports from Brazil stood at +6.2%. At the same time, Venezuela (+21.5%), Chile (+16.7%) and Peru (+5.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Venezuela emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +21.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Ecuador (-2.7%), Colombia (-7.0%) and Argentina (-13.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Brazil and Chile increased by +25 and +7.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest reel cutting slitter supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Chile ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 5.2% share.
In Brazil, reel cutting slitter exports increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Chile (+18.2% per year) and Argentina (-14.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by 34% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while Ecuador ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Reel Cutting Slitter Imports
Imports in MERCOSUR
In 2022, approx. X units of combined reel slitting and re-reeling cutting machines for paper and paperboard were imported in MERCOSUR; growing by 3.7% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, reel cutting slitter imports rose to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Brazil represented the main importing country with an import of about X units, which finished at 42% of total imports. Peru (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 16% share, followed by Argentina (15%), Colombia (11%), Chile (5.6%) and Ecuador (5.5%). Paraguay (X units) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to reel cutting slitter imports into Brazil stood at -3.4%. At the same time, Colombia (+5.1%) and Ecuador (+4.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +5.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Peru (-2.7%), Paraguay (-3.2%), Argentina (-4.1%) and Chile (-8.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador and Peru increased by +6.7, +4.4, +3.3 and +2.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported combined reel slitting and re-reeling cutting machines for paper and paperboard in MERCOSUR, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Argentina ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Peru, with an 8.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Argentina (-3.2% per year) and Peru (-1.6% per year).
