Concentrated Orange Juice Market Size in MERCOSUR

In 2021, the MERCOSUR concentrated orange juice market decreased by -3.3% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, consumption, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

Concentrated Orange Juice Production in MERCOSUR

In value terms, concentrated orange juice production expanded remarkably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production saw a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 14%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of concentrated orange juice was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, saw a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 9.8%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated orange juice exports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a drastic downturn. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Brazil (X tons) represented the largest exporter of concentrated orange juice in MERCOSUR, comprising 99% of total export.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the concentrated orange juice exports, with a CAGR of -2.0% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) also remains the largest concentrated orange juice supplier in MERCOSUR.

In Brazil, concentrated orange juice exports declined by an average annual rate of -5.6% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 5.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 13% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Brazil.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Brazil amounted to -3.6% per year.

Concentrated Orange Juice Imports

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, supplies from abroad of concentrated orange juice was finally on the rise to reach X tons after four years of decline. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, concentrated orange juice imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Chile (X tons) represented the key importer of concentrated orange juice, achieving 48% of total imports. Argentina (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 24% share, followed by Colombia (8.9%) and Venezuela (6.5%). The following importers - Ecuador (X tons), Uruguay (X tons) and Suriname (X tons) - together made up 9% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Argentina (with a CAGR of +15.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest concentrated orange juice importing markets in MERCOSUR were Chile ($X), Argentina ($X) and Venezuela ($X), with a combined 77% share of total imports.

Argentina, with a CAGR of +10.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately reflecting the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 15%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Venezuela ($X per ton), while Suriname ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Venezuela (+4.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
