In 2021, the amount of crawler tractors exported in MERCOSUR totaled X units, with an increase of 5.9% on the previous year. In general, exports showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 165% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, crawler tractor exports shrank notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 198%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Brazil (X units) represented the key exporter of crawler tractors, creating 50% of total exports. Ecuador (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 19% share, followed by Peru (11%), Chile (8.3%) and Argentina (5.6%). The following exporters - Suriname (X units) and Uruguay (X units) - each finished at a 5.6% share of total exports.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the crawler tractors exports, with a CAGR of +27.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Chile (+13.0%) and Ecuador (+9.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Suriname and Uruguay experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Argentina (-8.3%) and Peru (-10.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Brazil (+38 p.p.), Argentina (+5.6 p.p.), Suriname (+2.8 p.p.), Uruguay (+2.8 p.p.), Chile (+2.5 p.p.) and Ecuador (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Peru saw its share reduced by -53.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the largest crawler tractor supplying countries in MERCOSUR were Peru ($X), Brazil ($X) and Chile ($X), with a combined 77% share of total exports. Ecuador, Suriname, Uruguay and Argentina lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.

Among the main exporting countries, Suriname, with a CAGR of +52.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -23.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 118% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per unit), while Argentina ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Suriname (+25.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, approx. X units of crawler tractors were imported in MERCOSUR; picking up by 155% against 2020. Overall, imports, however, saw a slight decrease. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, crawler tractor imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a drastic downturn. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of crawler tractor imports in 2021 were Uruguay (X units), Colombia (X units), Paraguay (X units), Argentina (X units), Guyana (X units) and Peru (X units), together resulting at 86% of total import. Chile (X units) took a 5.7% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Brazil (5.5%).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Uruguay (with a CAGR of +44.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Argentina ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported crawler tractors in MERCOSUR, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Peru ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Argentina totaled -6.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Peru (-8.3% per year) and Brazil (-5.0% per year).

In 2021, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, growing by 18% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a deep contraction.
