In value terms, marble and travertine crude exports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 173% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the crude exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Chile was the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 64% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons) and Peru (X tons), together generating a 33% share of total exports. Colombia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Chile was also the fastest-growing in terms of the marble and travertine exports, with a CAGR of +38.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Colombia (+12.3%) and Peru (+9.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Brazil (-2.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Chile increased by +64 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest marble and travertine crude supplying countries in MERCOSUR were Brazil ($X), Chile ($X) and Peru ($X), together accounting for 97% of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Chile, with a CAGR of +46.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -16.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in MERCOSUR
In 2022, approx. X tons of marble and travertine were imported in MERCOSUR; with a decrease of -39% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 268% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, marble and travertine crude imports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 225% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Colombia (X tons) was the key importer of marble and travertine, constituting 77% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Venezuela (X tons), committing a 12% share of total imports. Peru (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Colombia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the marble and travertine imports, with a CAGR of +16.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Peru (+16.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Argentina (-3.2%), Venezuela (-5.8%) and Brazil (-13.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Colombia (+49 p.p.) and Peru (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela saw its share reduced by -3.3%, -19.5% and -24.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Colombia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported marble and travertine in MERCOSUR, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Venezuela ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Colombia stood at +18.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Venezuela (-4.5% per year) and Argentina (+15.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, growing by 6.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 22%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton.
