In 2022, overseas shipments of curtains and interior blinds increased by 5.9% to X square meters, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +65.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 56%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, curtains exports amounted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Paraguay was the main exporter of curtains and interior blinds in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports accounting for X square meters, which was approx. 82% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Chile (X square meters), creating a 12% share of total exports. Colombia (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Paraguay was also the fastest-growing in terms of the curtains and interior blinds exports, with a CAGR of +9.3% from 2012 to 2022. Chile experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Colombia (-6.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Paraguay increased by +19 percentage points.

In value terms, Paraguay ($X) remains the largest curtains supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Chile ($X), with a 21% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Paraguay stood at +4.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Chile (-3.9% per year) and Colombia (-6.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per square meter in 2022, rising by 4.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 9.2%. The level of export peaked at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per square meter), while Paraguay ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (+0.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR

Curtains imports fell notably to X square meters in 2022, which is down by -33.8% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a measured increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 100%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X square meters, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In value terms, curtains imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 90% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

Chile was the main importing country with an import of about X square meters, which resulted at 49% of total imports. Brazil (X square meters) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 19% share, followed by Paraguay (5.5%), Colombia (4.8%) and Peru (4.7%). The following importers - Guyana (X square meters) and Uruguay (X square meters) - each recorded an 8.4% share of total imports.

Chile was also the fastest-growing in terms of the curtains and interior blinds imports, with a CAGR of +11.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Guyana (+8.1%), Peru (+4.7%), Brazil (+4.1%) and Uruguay (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Paraguay experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Colombia (-12.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Chile (+28 p.p.), Brazil (+3 p.p.) and Guyana (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Colombia (-19.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Chile ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported curtains and interior blinds in MERCOSUR, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 4.9% share.

In Chile, curtains imports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (-0.4% per year) and Colombia (-11.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per square meter, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable reduction. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per square meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
