Dairy Machinery Market Size in MERCOSUR

The MERCOSUR dairy machinery market fell modestly to $X in 2022, approximately reflecting the previous year. The total consumption indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, shipments abroad of dairy machinery decreased by -9.2% to X units, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, exports showed a precipitous slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 41% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Brazil represented the main exporter of dairy machinery in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports recording X units, which was near 80% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X units), mixing up a 12% share of total exports. Chile (X units) and Ecuador (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to dairy machinery exports from Brazil stood at -1.1%. At the same time, Chile (+7.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +7.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Ecuador (-4.4%) and Colombia (-6.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Brazil, Colombia and Chile increased by +74, +10 and +3 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) emerged as the largest dairy machinery supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Colombia ($X), with a 25% share of total exports. It was followed by Chile, with a 6.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil stood at -6.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Colombia (-2.5% per year) and Chile (+7.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2022, dropping by -15% against the previous year. Export price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, dairy machinery export price increased by +3.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 142%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while Ecuador ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (+3.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2022, purchases abroad of dairy machinery was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 74% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, dairy machinery imports rose rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 46%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Chile (X units), Ecuador (X units) and Brazil (X units) represented roughly 68% of total imports in 2022. Uruguay (X units) held a 7.7% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Peru (6.6%), Colombia (5.7%) and Argentina (5.4%).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +9.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Chile ($X), Brazil ($X) and Ecuador ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 68% share of total imports. Argentina, Peru, Uruguay and Colombia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.

Peru, with a CAGR of +13.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, growing by 1.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per unit), while Ecuador ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
