The MERCOSUR direct dye market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after three years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a noticeable setback. Total exports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +74.7% against 2017 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, direct dye exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 37%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Brazil was the largest exporter of direct dyes and preparations based thereon in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 78% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Argentina (X tons), constituting a 16% share of total exports. Colombia (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the direct dyes and preparations based thereon exports, with a CAGR of +10.1% from 2012 to 2021. Colombia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Argentina (-9.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil increased by +35 percentage points. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (+6.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, purchases abroad of direct dyes and preparations based thereon increased by 52% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +63.6% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, direct dye imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Argentina (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) represented roughly 81% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X tons), committing an 11% share of total imports. The following importers - Chile (X tons), Ecuador (X tons) and Uruguay (X tons) - together made up 6.7% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Argentina (with a CAGR of +10.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest direct dye importing markets in MERCOSUR were Peru ($X), Argentina ($X) and Brazil ($X), together accounting for 82% of total imports.

Argentina, with a CAGR of +8.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 6.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
