The total production indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +11.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the production volume increased by 51%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, after five years of decline, there was growth in overseas shipments of disperse dyes and preparations based thereon, when their volume increased by 2.8% to X tons. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a sharp setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 9.8% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, disperse dye exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep contraction. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Brazil represented the largest exporter of disperse dyes and preparations based thereon in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 73% of total exports in 2021. Paraguay (X tons) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Colombia (7.4%). Chile (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to disperse dye exports from Brazil stood at -23.5%. At the same time, Paraguay (+7.4%) and Chile (+3.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Paraguay emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +7.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Colombia (-4.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Paraguay (+15 p.p.), Colombia (+6.1 p.p.) and Chile (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Brazil (-24.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest disperse dye supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Colombia ($X), with a 7.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Chile, with a 6.7% share.

In Brazil, disperse dye exports plunged by an average annual rate of -17.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Colombia (-0.7% per year) and Chile (+16.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 24% against the previous year. Export price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, disperse dye export price increased by +95.9% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 53%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Paraguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+12.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Disperse dye imports skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, rising by 41% against 2020. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, disperse dye imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Brazil (X tons) represented the key importer of disperse dyes and preparations based thereon, committing 51% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X tons), Argentina (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Chile (X tons), together mixing up a 45% share of total imports. Ecuador (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

Imports into Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Colombia (+7.8%), Argentina (+3.3%), Peru (+1.7%) and Chile (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +7.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Ecuador (-10.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Brazil (+7.5 p.p.) and Colombia (+5.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Ecuador saw its share reduced by -7.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported disperse dyes and preparations based thereon in MERCOSUR, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Colombia ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Peru, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil totaled +5.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Colombia (+8.5% per year) and Peru (+3.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -6.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 23%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
