In 2021, approx. X tons of dolomite were exported in MERCOSUR; surging by 12% compared with 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 145%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, dolomite exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate notable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 116% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Brazil (X tons) was the major exporter of dolomite, committing 76% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Argentina (X tons), comprising a 21% share of total exports. Colombia (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to dolomite exports from Brazil stood at +9.8%. At the same time, Colombia (+37.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +37.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Argentina (-1.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+19 p.p.) and Colombia (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Argentina (-20.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest dolomite supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Argentina ($X), with a 24% share of total exports.
In Brazil, dolomite exports increased at an average annual rate of +10.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Argentina (-4.2% per year) and Colombia (+37.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per ton, rising by 22% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+0.4%).
Dolomite Imports
Imports in MERCOSUR
In 2021, dolomite imports in MERCOSUR reached X tons, picking up by 10% on 2020 figures. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +15.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, dolomite imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Brazil (X tons) and Paraguay (X tons) represented the largest importers of dolomite in 2021, reaching approx. 48% and 38% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Chile (X tons), mixing up a 12% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of +26.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, the largest dolomite importing markets in MERCOSUR were Brazil ($X), Paraguay ($X) and Chile ($X), with a combined 94% share of total imports.
Brazil, with a CAGR of +35.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 24% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt decrease.
