In 2021, the MERCOSUR domestic appliances market increased by 11% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decrease. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Peru (with a CAGR of +14.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Colombia ($X) and Ecuador ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 84% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Chile, Argentina and Peru, which together accounted for a further 16%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Peru, with a CAGR of +14.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -4.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 6.8%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per unit), while Ecuador ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (+2.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, overseas purchases of domestic appliances increased by 46% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +47.0% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, domestic appliances imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Chile (X units) and Brazil (X units) represented roughly 50% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Peru (X units), Colombia (X units), Argentina (X units), Venezuela (X units) and Paraguay (X units), together mixing up a 41% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +7.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest domestic appliances importing markets in MERCOSUR were Chile ($X), Brazil ($X) and Peru ($X), together accounting for 66% of total imports.

Chile, with a CAGR of +8.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 6.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while Venezuela ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Paraguay (+1.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
