In 2021, the MERCOSUR off-highway dumper market increased by 33% to $X, rising for the fifth consecutive year after four years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, showed a deep slump. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, off-highway dumper production expanded significantly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the production volume increased by 15% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of dumpers for off-highway use was finally on the rise to reach X units after three years of decline. Total exports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 115% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, off-highway dumper exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 86% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Brazil dominates exports structure, accounting for X units, which was approx. 87% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Chile (X units), mixing up a 5% share of total exports. Colombia (X units) and Peru (X units) took a minor share of total exports.

Exports from Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Colombia (+51.0%) and Peru (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +51.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Chile (-17.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Brazil (+31 p.p.) and Colombia (+3.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Chile saw its share reduced by -33.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest off-highway dumper supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 6% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 2% share.

In Brazil, off-highway dumper exports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Chile (-13.7% per year) and Colombia (+41.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 4.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while Colombia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+3.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, the amount of dumpers for off-highway use imported in MERCOSUR surged to X units, rising by 47% on 2020 figures. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 140% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, off-highway dumper imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 123% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Chile was the largest importer of dumpers for off-highway use in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was approx. 55% of total imports in 2021. Peru (X units) took a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Brazil (16%). Guyana (X units) and Suriname (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to off-highway dumper imports into Chile stood at -13.7%. At the same time, Guyana (+26.4%) and Suriname (+19.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guyana emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +26.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Brazil (-2.8%) and Peru (-6.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil, Peru, Guyana and Suriname increased by +9, +8.2, +2.7 and +2 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Chile ($X), Brazil ($X) and Peru ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 95% of total imports. Suriname and Guyana lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 2.4%.

Among the main importing countries, Suriname, with a CAGR of +17.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 10% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.3%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 33%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Guyana ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
