Egg Product Market Size in MERCOSUR

The MERCOSUR egg product market declined to $X in 2021, stabilizing at the previous year. Brazil was the key exporter of egg products in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. 66% of total exports in 2021. Argentina (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 24% share, followed by Peru (10%).

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the egg products exports, with a CAGR of +12.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Peru (+11.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Argentina (-12.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil and Peru increased by +45 and +6.4 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Argentina ($X) and Peru ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 100% share of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Brazil, with a CAGR of +11.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 32% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (-0.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Egg Product Imports

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of egg products, when their volume decreased by -15.7% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 57% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, egg product imports shrank to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +16.3% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 81% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Chile (X tons) was the major importer of egg products, achieving 34% of total imports. Ecuador (X tons) took a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Uruguay (17%), Colombia (15%), Venezuela (7.5%) and Argentina (4.9%). Paraguay (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Paraguay (with a CAGR of +36.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Chile ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported egg products in MERCOSUR, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Colombia ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Ecuador, with a 15% share.

In Chile, egg product imports increased at an average annual rate of +19.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Colombia (+2.0% per year) and Ecuador (+5.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 5.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Uruguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+13.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
