Exports in MERCOSUR

In 2022, overseas shipments of electric ovens, cookers, cooking plates, boiling rings, grillers and roasters decreased by -15.9% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

In value terms, electric oven and cooker exports reduced to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Brazil prevails in exports structure, resulting at X units, which was approx. 83% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X units) and Chile (X units), together achieving a 14% share of total exports.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the electric ovens, cookers, cooking plates, boiling rings, grillers and roasters exports, with a CAGR of +11.9% from 2012 to 2022. Colombia (-9.9%) and Chile (-11.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+47 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Chile (-18.6 p.p.) and Colombia (-25.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest electric oven and cooker supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 13% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil stood at +10.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Chile (-7.7% per year) and Colombia (-10.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 7.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 28%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while Brazil ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MERCOSUR

In 2022, overseas purchases of electric ovens, cookers, cooking plates, boiling rings, grillers and roasters decreased by -31.7% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 59% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, electric oven and cooker imports dropped notably to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +35.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 79% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then plummeted in the following year.

Imports by Country

Brazil was the major importer of electric ovens, cookers, cooking plates, boiling rings, grillers and roasters in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was near 49% of total imports in 2022. Chile (X units) took a 23% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Argentina (10%) and Peru (7%). The following importers - Ecuador (X units), Venezuela (X units) and Colombia (X units) - together made up 7.3% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to electric oven and cooker imports into Brazil stood at -3.2%. At the same time, Ecuador (+22.4%), Chile (+17.6%), Peru (+7.5%), Colombia (+6.6%) and Argentina (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ecuador emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +22.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Venezuela (-2.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Chile (+18 p.p.), Peru (+3.3 p.p.) and Ecuador (+3.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Brazil (-24.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest electric oven and cooker importing markets in MERCOSUR were Brazil ($X), Chile ($X) and Argentina ($X), with a combined 64% share of total imports. Venezuela, Peru, Colombia and Ecuador lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.

Among the main importing countries, Peru, with a CAGR of +8.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, rising by 3.6% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per unit), while Brazil ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
