In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of electrical or battery operated lighting or visual signalling for bicycles, when their volume decreased by -16.5% to X units. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 250% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2020, and then reduced notably in the following year.

In value terms, bicycle lighting exports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 268% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Chile was the key exporting country with an export of around X units, which resulted at 54% of total exports. Colombia (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Brazil (X units). All these countries together took approx. 43% share of total exports. The following exporters - Argentina (X units) and Peru (X units) - each reached a 3.6% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of +127.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the largest bicycle lighting supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 25% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 23% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Chile amounted to +116.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brazil (+149.2% per year) and Colombia (+21.5% per year).

The export price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 36% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 78% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Peru ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (+10.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the amount of electrical or battery operated lighting or visual signalling for bicycles imported in MERCOSUR skyrocketed to X units, with an increase of 89% against 2020. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a resilient increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Brazil represented the major importer of electrical or battery operated lighting or visual signalling for bicycles in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was near 51% of total imports in 2021. Argentina (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Colombia (12%), Chile (10%) and Peru (8.7%). Ecuador (X units) held a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +18.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Argentina (+27.8%), Peru (+22.3%), Colombia (+14.1%), Chile (+13.2%) and Ecuador (+7.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Argentina emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +27.8% from 2012-2021. Argentina (+7.7 p.p.), Brazil (+6.3 p.p.) and Peru (+2.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Ecuador, Colombia and Chile saw its share reduced by -1.8%, -2.9% and -3.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Colombia ($X) and Chile ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 69% share of total imports. Argentina, Peru and Ecuador lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

Argentina, with a CAGR of +27.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in MERCOSUR amounted to $X per unit, falling by -5.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 33%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
