Exports in MERCOSUR

In 2021, shipments abroad of electro-cardiographs was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 128% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ECG exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 105% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Brazil (X units) was the largest exporter of electro-cardiographs, comprising 60% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Argentina (X units), Colombia (X units) and Venezuela (X units), together generating a 34% share of total exports. Uruguay (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to ECG exports from Brazil stood at +5.5%. At the same time, Uruguay (+30.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uruguay emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +30.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Venezuela (-7.4%), Colombia (-9.0%) and Argentina (-16.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Brazil (+46 p.p.) and Uruguay (+4.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Argentina saw its share reduced by -20.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest ECG supplier in MERCOSUR, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Argentina ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 2.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil amounted to +12.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Argentina (-16.9% per year) and Colombia (-10.3% per year).

Imports by Country

Brazil represented the largest importer of electro-cardiographs in MERCOSUR, with the volume of imports recording X units, which was near 55% of total imports in 2021. Colombia (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 16% share, followed by Argentina (13%) and Ecuador (8%). The following importers - Peru (X units) and Chile (X units) - together made up 5.3% of total imports.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the electro-cardiographs imports, with a CAGR of +30.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Ecuador (+11.8%), Colombia (+7.5%), Peru (+5.3%) and Argentina (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Chile experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador increased by +48, +5.7 and +4.4 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported electro-cardiographs in MERCOSUR, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Colombia ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with an 11% share.

In Brazil, ECG imports expanded at an average annual rate of +15.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Colombia (+3.2% per year) and Argentina (-1.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 5.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by 7.3%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while Ecuador ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
