Brazil prevails in imports structure, amounting to X units, which was near 67% of total imports in 2022. Argentina (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Peru (X units), Colombia (X units) and Chile (X units). All these countries together took approx. 25% share of total imports. The following importers - Ecuador (X units) and Paraguay (X units) - each reached a 5.3% share of total imports.
Imports into Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Paraguay (+20.2%), Ecuador (+13.6%), Peru (+6.4%) and Chile (+4.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Paraguay emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of +20.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Colombia (-1.0%) and Argentina (-4.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+12 p.p.), Peru (+2.2 p.p.), Paraguay (+2.1 p.p.) and Ecuador (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Colombia (-2.5 p.p.) and Argentina (-8.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported equipment for internal combustion engines in MERCOSUR, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 9.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with an 8.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Chile (+4.5% per year) and Colombia (-0.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
